Eagles 2026 system
A charting and diagramming language for the 2026 Eagles offense, rebuilt from the two playbooks closest to Sean Mannion: Green Bay 2019 (LaFleur, where he coached in 2024 and 2025) and the Rams 2022 (McVay, the offense he played in from 2017 to 2018). When the two books use different words for the same thing, the Green Bay word is the main one and the Rams word is listed as an alias.
Nobody outside the building knows the real Eagles words. This is the family language, used the same way every week so the film charts and the drawings line up. Where film cannot show which receiver has which job, the system says so instead of guessing.
Day-after film flow
The day-after routine. Claude does the pre-snap charting from the downloaded All-22 while I do something else, then I check its work and spend my own time on what the play was. About 20 minutes of waiting, then 90 minutes of my time for a 55 to 75 snap game.
- One question per pass. Formation first, play second, drawing last.
- Same words every week. If the system has a word, use it. If it does not, describe it and flag it.
- The chart is facts from film. The drawing is my read. Keep them apart.
- Download the All-22 from NFL Pro (Game Center, both angles in one file). Save it with the footage.
- Run the all22-film-charting skill in Chrome for the TEXT pass only: Play ID, quarter, down and distance, yard line, play text, and personnel from the On Field Players list. Personnel from the list is the one thing video cannot give reliably.
- Paste those rows into the workbook so the week has its Play IDs (W3-001 ...).
- Tell Claude: chart week N from this file. Give it the video path.
- Claude splits the video into plays, matches each Eagles snap to its workbook row by yard line and order, and pulls the set frame from both angles.
- It charts family, strength, backfield, hash, every eligible's alignment, and the motion note, with the set taken BEFORE any motion and AFTER any shift.
- It compares its read with the workbook row and lists every disagreement with the reason.
- Each snap gets a confidence for personnel / formation / hash. Names it cannot read stay unknown.
- Read Claude's disagreement list first. Open those snaps in Film Lab and decide. Most are set-versus-motion calls: the system charts the set.
- Spot check five other snaps at random, plus every snap rated M on formation.
- Things video reads badly: on or off the ball, stack versus a tight pair, bunch versus tight trips, and receiver names. Fix what matters.
- Claude runs the import. Every formation comes in with its system call: Gun Dice Rt, West Lt Slot, Gun Trips Lt G.
- Twins (Trips / Trio / Trax, Dice / Dixie, Stack / South): leave the first word unless I know who the F was.
- Write down which formations are new this week and which got the most snaps.
- Watch the end zone angle first for the line, then the sideline angle for routes.
- Run: read the line's first two steps. Flat and wide = wide zone (18 / 19). Tighter, downhill = mid or tight zone (16 / 17, 14 / 15). Double teams and a puller = gap (12 / 13). Even number goes right, odd goes left. In the gun the first digit is 3.
- Then the tag: who came across (Sift), who led, toss or handoff, fly motion with it. Look the word up in Run game.
- Pass: first the type. Quick, dropback, play pass (name the run it copies), movement (Keep), or screen.
- Then the protection (which way the line slides, where the back checks), then the concept by the strong-side routes, then the backside tag.
- Write the whole call in order: shift, backfield, formation, variation, motion, number or protection, concept. Example: Gun Trips Rt F Fly 18 Zap.
- Not sure of the word: write what I saw in plain words and mark it needs review. A plain description beats a wrong word.
- Do not draw all 65. Draw each NEW play once, plus the three or four that mattered most.
- Open the formation, start a play from it. The alignment is already right.
- Add the motion first (dashed start spot), then blocks or routes, then number the quarterback's read.
- Name the play with the call. In the notes: Play IDs it showed up on, down and distance, the defense's front and coverage, result.
- A play they ran before: add this week's Play ID to the existing drawing instead of drawing it again.
- Put the week's plays in one playbook for the season, a section per week.
- Read This season so far at the bottom of this page: which formation words and motions went up or down.
- Three lines in my notes: what was new, what they leaned on, what I expect next week.
- Any word I had to invent or could not find: add it to my list to settle before next week so the language stays the same.
- Print the week's sheet from the playbook if I want it on paper.
How a call is built
A call is said in a fixed order. Chart and name plays in the same order so every week reads the same.
Example: Gun
Example: Trips Rt
Example: Close
Example: F Fly
Example: 18, or 2 Jet
Example: Zorro, or Y Stick
Example: can 19 Wanda
Positions and personnel
The five jobs
Tight end. The formation strength is his side: Rt and Lt in a call mean where the Y goes.
Mostly the strong-side receiver. Off the ball when a tight end is on his side.
Mostly the weak-side receiver, on the ball.
The adjuster: the formation word talks to him. Fullback in 21, second tight end in 12, third receiver in 11.
Halfback.
Personnel groups
1 back, 2 tight ends, 2 receivers. F is the second tight end.
1 back, 3 tight ends, 1 receiver. The receiver is tagged X or Z: 13X, 13Z.
2 backs, 1 tight end, 2 receivers. F is the fullback.
2 backs, 2 tight ends, 1 receiver, tagged 22X or 22Z.
2 backs, 3 receivers. The third receiver plays the Y spot.
1 back, 4 receivers. The fourth receiver plays the Y spot.
No back. 01 = 1 tight end and 4 receivers, 02 = 2 tight ends and 3 receivers.
Jumbo: an extra lineman plays a tight end spot (Rams word).
Splits and depths
Every player in a formation stands on one of the editor's snap spots, so an imported formation and one I draw by hand line up the same way. These are the rules an import follows.
On the ball next to the tackle: one yard outside him, on the row spacing the editor shows in orange. The next man is one more yard out.
GB p.11, Rams 01 General p.29A -5- on a playbook diagram is the Hash +5 landmark. A -3- is Hash +3. Hash +1 to +5 are the reduced splits. A stacked or bunched partner sits one yard either side of the man on the landmark.
Receiver or tight end drawn INSIDE the numbers: Top #s (the inside edge of the paint). Well inside: #s -1 or #s -2.
Drawn ON the numbers: Mid #s.
Drawn OUTSIDE the numbers: Bottom #s (the outside edge of the paint).
Normal outside split with nothing marked: #s +2 (the books' 2 yards outside the numbers to the field). Into the boundary: #s +4.
Very wide: 4 from the sideline or 2 from the sideline.
Slot with no mark: halfway between the end man and the outside receiver (the editor's middle snap).
A pack pushed out to the numbers covers them: inside man Top #s, point man Mid #s on the ball, outside man Bottom #s.
If a playbook shows a spot none of these cover, add a new landmark for it instead of eyeballing it.
Depths: under center the halfback's toes are at 7.5 yards and the fullback's heels at 5. Gun: quarterback's heels at 5, back beside him. Pistol: quarterback at 4, back at 7.
Backfield words
Under center is the default. No word is said.
Quarterback in the shotgun, back beside him. Said before the formation: Gun Trips Rt.
Quarterback at 4 yards, back straight behind him.
Neither book has a word for which side of the quarterback the gun back stands on. The play tells him. The chart still records it, so PlayForge keeps it as a note on the formation: strong = the Y's side.
Formations
Every word is drawn strong right. Say Lt and the whole picture flips. Click a drawing to open it in the editor.

GB p.37At the line
Flip the play to the other side out of a balanced formation. Alerted in the huddle: 18 alert Oscar becomes 19.
Two plays called in the huddle. Run the first unless the quarterback says Can, then run the second.
Cancels a Can or an Oscar: back to the first play.
The no-huddle package, and the fast cadence that goes with it.
Run game
Two digits. First digit is the backfield: 1 = QB under center, 3 = shotgun (same play, gun footwork). GB also has a 50s gun series tied to quick-pass tags that the pages read do not explain. Second digit is the hole and so the family: 8/9 wide zone, 6/7 mid zone (LA only), 4/5 tight or inside zone, 2/3 gap runs, 0/1 gun dive zone (LA only). Even goes right, odd goes left. Plays are printed as a pair and the order tells the side: 18-19, 14-15, 12-13, 16-17 run to the strong or closed (TE) side; 19-18, 15-14, 13-12, 17-16 run to the weak or open side. Neither book has a numbering page in the sections read, so this is worked out from the play titles and diagrams (Rt formations carry the even number).
Wide Zone (Outside Zone)
The base run. Everyone reach-blocks to the call, combos are named by who is working together, and the back reads the end man then the next defender inside. GB calls it outside zone; strong is 18 / 19, weak or open side is 19 / 18. On film: Line takes flat lateral steps to the sideline. QB opens at about 3 or 4:30 and hands off deep (or tosses), then boots away. Back opens lateral at 7.5 yards, aims outside the TE or tackle, one cut and go. Numbers: 18 / 19 (gun 38 / 39)
Base strong-side wide zone, Mike declared. In 11 from 2x2 the line and TE zone the front, receivers block by 8-9 rules. Usually paired with a backside Sift or an Oscar/Can to get out of a bad look.
On film: Whole line reach-steps flat to the TE side, back opens lateral and aims outside the TE, one cut. 2x2 with one TE. A backside player cutting off the end = Sift.
GB p.106, GB p.116, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.18, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.20One-back strong wide zone behind a TE plus wing. The two tight ends combo the edge (Homer in GB, Zap in LA) and with the tackle own the end, Sam and strong safety. Play-side receiver takes the corner.
On film: Two TEs stacked to the run side (wing off the TE hip). Line reaches flat, wing and TE double the end then one climbs. Back tracks wide for the D gap, QB boots away after the handoff.
GB p.160, GB p.161, GB p.261, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.5, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.10, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.12Two-back, full-flow strong wide zone. Fullback and Y work together through the end man to the support player, Mike declared, play-side receiver blocks the corner. Zap is the one-back twin (wing replaces the FB).
On film: I or offset back set. Fullback leads flat to the TE side and fits off the TE block on the edge, tailback follows on the same wide track. Everyone flows one way, no cutback blocker.
GB p.107, GB p.108, GB p.109, GB p.258, GB p.259Zap with the "4" (weak safety down) adjustment built in: targeting slides back one man, Will declared, tackle and TEs own end, Sam and Mike. Paired with LA Zap Fup because both describe the same automatic call.
On film: Looks like Zap from a TE/wing surface, but the combos work one linebacker further back and the play-side receiver must dig out the strong safety. Often tossed.
Also called: 18 / 19 Zap Fup (Rams)
GB p.215, GB p.216, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.8Strong wide zone where the line, TE and receivers block the shell they see (front plus coverage) instead of a fixed count. Zero declared vs one-high, TE declared vs two-high. Gun version is 38 / 39 with a bubble.
On film: Wide zone from 11 with receivers stalking by leverage, slot working in on the nickel or safety. In LA it is a bounce read: back presses wide and expects to get outside.
GB p.120, GB p.121, GB p.122, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.21, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.23Strong wide zone with split flow: the F (second TE or fullback) comes back across the formation to cut off the backside edge so the backside tackle can zone inside.
On film: Line reaches one way, the F goes the other way behind the line and cuts the backside end. Back on a wide track to the TE. Sets up the keeper off the same look.
GB p.212, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.14Two-back, full-flow wide zone to the weak side. Fullback blocks the Will, Mike declared. "Spot" (QB fist) vs a safety nobody can reach: line pushes one man over, FB takes the safety, receiver takes the corner.
On film: I-back set, everyone flows away from the TE. Fullback leads through the weak B/C area to the Will, back aims at the outside leg of the weak tackle.
GB p.110, GB p.111, GB p.112Strong-side partner of 19 / 18 Weak in the two-back can package: called together and the QB keeps or flips based on unblockable support or safety rotation. Exact fullback rule is unclear from text.
On film: I-back wide zone to the TE side with the fullback leading; usually seen as the play the QB checks into or out of at the line.
GB p.111, GB p.112, GB p.225One-back wide zone to the open side, box declared: line and TE just block the box (4 down plus 2 backers), receivers on 8-9 or slot rules. The usual "can" answer when the strong-side run has an unblockable defender.
On film: Wide zone away from the TE from 11 or 12, no lead blocker. Back aims at the outside leg of the open-side tackle. Close cousin of the LA 17 / 16 Wanda mid zone track.
GB p.113, GB p.114, GB p.115, GB p.116, GB p.117, GB p.301, GB p.302Gun weak wide zone with a Wipe: the play-side guard pins the A-gap tackle and the center pulls around for the backer. Off when there is a 3 technique. Carries a bubble or docking screen, or a Z quick-game tag.
On film: Shotgun, back offset. Center pulls play side around a down-blocking guard while the rest of the line reaches. Receivers showing bubble on the perimeter.
GB p.118, GB p.119, GB p.384Two-back strong wide zone where the fullback goes to the support player: inside or outside the end if Sam is on the ball, around the edge if Sam is off. TE takes a walked-up Sam. Not the same as LA 16 / 17 Force.
On film: I-back wide zone to the TE side; fullback runs for the force defender (safety/corner area) instead of doubling the end with the TE.
GB p.213, GB p.214Two-back wide zone blocked by count: play-side blockers take #1, the fullback takes #2, center targets #3. Aims at the outside leg of the tackle. Becomes Force when the Sam walks up on the line.
On film: Fullback arcs outside for the second defender in from the sideline while the line reaches; back a bit tighter than Zorro (tackle, not TE).
GB p.262, GB p.263One-back strong wide zone from trips, TE declared: center leaves the first box backer for the TE and takes the second. Slot and F block slot rules. Cans to weak Wanda vs a box issue.
On film: 11 personnel trips. Wide zone to the TE/trips side with the slot blocking the nickel or safety. Compare LA Zyn, which may be the same idea (not confirmed).
GB p.217, GB p.218, GB p.302, GB p.381LA one-back strong wide zone from 3x1 in 11: tackle, Y and the slot receiver block the end, nickel and the third defender in from the sideline. Normally carries Pulse. May match GB Support, not confirmed.
On film: Trips with a slot tight to the TE. Slot receiver blocks down or in like an extra tight end, outside receiver stalks. Back wide to the D gap.
Rams 06 Wide Zone p.16LA wide zone to the open side with a three-man combo to the nickel: slot receiver joins the tackle so line plus slot handle 4 down, 2 backers and the nickel. Run with Pulse, Fly or Flow motion.
On film: Wide zone away from the TE. Slot receiver cracks in next to the tackle on the end/nickel. Jet motion either into the run (Fly) or away from it (Flow).
Rams 06 Wide Zone p.25, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.28, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.30GB 11/12 wide zone that always shows a Sift on the diagrams and is paired with weak Wanda or a pass as the can. Exact meaning of the word is unclear from text; likely Wanda blocking plus a cross sift.
On film: Bunch or trips-tight look. Wide zone one way with a receiver or TE coming back across to cut off the backside edge. Gun version is 38 / 39.
GB p.219, GB p.220, GB p.221, GB p.222GB 11 wide zone drawn with structure rules to the play side and a Sift behind it; reads like Wash (push-declared) plus a Y sift. Unclear from text beyond that.
On film: Bunch or 2x2, sometimes with Z fly or ghost motion. Wide zone with the Y cutting off the backside end.
GB p.303GB 12 wide zone to the weak side that always comes with a receiver in fly motion. Blocking shows normal backside combos; what the word changes is unclear from text.
On film: Two-TE West set, receiver jets across at the snap, wide zone hits away from the TE side.
GB p.267GB two-back open-formation wide zone with slot rules for the receivers, paired with 19 / 18 Weak as the can. Also appears as 14 Weasel inside zone. What the tag changes is unclear from text.
On film: I formation with both receivers split (no TE surface), wide zone with the slot blocking the nickel.
GB p.299, GB p.171, GB p.260GB two-back toss wide zone to the weak side from Ace sets, canned to 18 / 19 Weak vs an unblockable strong safety. Fullback rule is unclear from text.
On film: I or Weak set with Y on the other side, toss weak, play-side line showing Fan and Double calls.
GB p.300GB two-back strong wide zone called with Toss Sideline weak as the can vs an unblockable strong safety. Name suggests the fullback handles the Sam, but that is unclear from text.
On film: I formation with FB bumped. Wide zone to the TE side, or the QB checks and tosses weak.
GB p.265Automatic toss to the weak side. Fullback man-reaches the end man (can cut him), tackle takes the first backer off the ball. "Spot" pushes the line one man and sends the receiver to the corner.
On film: Reverse-out toss away from the TE, back runs for width right now. Fullback sprinting flat to hook or cut the weak-side end.
GB p.264, GB p.266Mid Zone
LA family that sits between wide and tight zone. Open side is 17 / 16, closed side is 16 / 17. Most plays are a Wanda (box count) or Wash (push) variation plus a motion word. GB 2019 has no separate mid zone. On film: Zone steps a little less flat than wide zone. QB opens at 4 or 8 o'clock. Back tracks the C gap, outside leg of the tackle; from gun he aims at the B gap. Numbers: 16 / 17 (gun 36 / 37)
LA mid zone to the open side by box count: line plus TE account for 4 down and 2 backers. Tiff adds a flinch by a receiver. GB has no mid zone family; its 19 / 18 Wanda is the nearest relative.
On film: Line steps play side but less flat than wide zone, QB opens at 4/8 o'clock, back tracks the C gap (outside leg of the tackle) away from the TE and makes one cut.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.5, Rams 07 Mid Zone p.7, Rams 07 Mid Zone p.10Wanda Push: open-side mid zone where the line still counts the box but alerts a Push to a down safety, so the combos climb one man further play side.
On film: Same picture as 17 / 16 Wanda from 3x1; the front-side combo ends up on a walked-down safety instead of a backer.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.7Open-side Wanda where the fly motion only happens vs single-high with the safety rotated weak: the motion man accounts for that safety. Vs two-high shell or strong rotation there is no motion.
On film: 3x1. If the free safety is down on the run side the receiver jets across toward the run at the snap; if not, it is plain Wanda.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.14Wanda Fly plus Skate/Slalom: fly motion to the run side and the innermost receiver slides away from it, so the defense sees 2x2 Wanda. Ski adds an insert block on the slide.
On film: Jet motion toward the open-side run while another receiver or TE slides behind the line the opposite way. Mid zone track, under center or gun (37 / 36).
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.17Wanda Flow: open-side mid zone with jet motion away from the run. Pre-snap the QB can give the sweep (Spirit / Alaska) instead. With Sift the TE cuts off the backside and the back gets it.
On film: Receiver jets away from the run, line zones to the open side. Watch whether the ball goes to the jet man or the back.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.19LA mid zone to the closed (TE) side, Mike-based. Normally comes with a backside Sift. With Fly and Ice a receiver skis across to the open side and the backside tackle mans the end.
On film: Mid zone toward the TE, back on a C-gap track. Backside TE or receiver coming across to cut off the end.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.21, Rams 07 Mid Zone p.29Straight Sift: closed-side mid zone blocking the structure. TE goes through or arcs to #2 from the sideline, receiver has #1, line works to #3. Sift is automatic (backside tackle sifts or combos). For nickel only.
On film: TE releases off the ball to a second-level defender instead of blocking the end; line zones toward him. Seen vs nickel, not base.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.23Wanda with a cross sift: split-flow mid zone to the closed side off a two-man surface. Can add Fly motion to the run side, a flinch, or a bubble.
On film: Line zones to the TE side while a blocker crosses the formation the other way to cut off the end. Jet motion toward the run in the Fly version.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.25, Rams 07 Mid Zone p.27Wash with a Y sift and Flow motion: closed-side mid zone from 3x1, line works to #2 from the sideline outside-in, receiver takes #1. Different play from GB 18 / 19 Force.
On film: Jet motion away from the run before the snap, Y comes back across to cut off the backside, mid zone to the closed side.
Rams 07 Mid Zone p.31Gun Wash plus a bubble: offset-gun mid zone to the open side, line counts 4 down and 2 backers and alerts Push to the safety, with the bubble as the built-in throw.
On film: Shotgun, back offset, 3x1 or 1x3 open. Mid zone away from trips with a bubble screen showing on the trips side.
Rams 08 Gun Only Mid Zone p.5, Rams 22 Run Alerts p.5Gun Wash from 2x2 with a pre-snap motion that does not change passing strength. Same box count and Push alert as Sponge.
On film: Offset gun, short motion that stays on its own side, mid zone to the open side.
Rams 08 Gun Only Mid Zone p.6Gun Flash with a Sift: open-side gun mid zone with a motion that does change passing strength. Line targets #2 outside-in, possible Push to the nickel.
On film: Offset gun, receiver motions across the formation, backside blocker sifts the end, mid zone to the open side.
Rams 08 Gun Only Mid Zone p.7Gun Wanda: plain box-count mid zone to the open side from offset gun, any formation, no motion required.
On film: Offset gun, back crosses the QB on a B-gap track, line zones to the open side and blocks the box.
Rams 08 Gun Only Mid Zone p.8Tight Zone (Inside Zone)
Downhill zone. Strong or closed side is 14 / 15, weak is 15 / 14. Variations are about who handles the backside: a fullback lead (Weak), split flow (Split, F Sift, Wifi), or man on the backside (Man). On film: Line steps vertical with tight double teams. QB opens deep at 5 or 7 o'clock. Back opens, crosses over, squares his shoulders by the third step and presses the B gap, reading inside-out from the center. Numbers: 14 / 15 (gun 34 / 35)
One-back inside (tight) zone to the weak side by box count. Receivers on 4-5 or slot rules; LA adds Maybe / Misty / Miff rules for the receiver who may insert on a down safety.
On film: Line steps vertical, not flat. Back opens, crosses over and squares up at the weak B gap, reading the first lineman past the center. Gun version is 35 / 34.
GB p.164, GB p.165, GB p.167, Rams 09 Tight Zone p.5Base strong-side inside zone, Mike declared. GB tags it with Al Oscar and alert insert; LA runs it with Fly motion and Ice (a receiver skis across, backside tackle mans the end). Paired as the same base play.
On film: Downhill zone to the TE side, back squares up at the B gap. Motion across and a backside cut-off block in the LA version.
Also called: 14 / 15 Fly-Flight Ice (Rams)
GB p.127, GB p.128, Rams 09 Tight Zone p.13Inside zone to the closed side with the F crossing back to cut off the backside edge (split flow). LA runs it from one- or two-back slot sets with Fly motion. Gun is 34 / 35.
On film: Line zones tight to the TE side, F comes across the formation behind them and kicks or cuts the backside end. Back downhill, can cut all the way back off the sift.
Also called: 14 / 15 F Sift Fly-Flight (Rams)
GB p.269, GB p.129, Rams 09 Tight Zone p.11Two-back, full-flow inside zone to the weak B gap, Mike declared. Fullback leads on the Will. "Spot" sends the FB to the safety and pushes the line one man. Insert keeps the backside off the strong safety.
On film: I formation iso look with zone blocking: fullback straight up into the weak B gap on the Will, back right behind him.
GB p.123, GB p.124, GB p.125, GB p.126Split-flow inside zone, Will declared. The F blocks the first backer off the ball inside the end on the side away from the call; backside combos depend on where the Sam is.
On film: Line zones one way, F goes the other way and inserts on a backside linebacker rather than the end.
GB p.223, GB p.224, GB p.225Inside zone strong with zone on the call side and man blocking on the backside. Fullback takes the Will (Mike on a hip slap, the tackle if a backer shows in the A gap). Wanda Y Man is the one-back version.
On film: Play side zones; backside linemen stay on their own man with no combo. Fullback or Y crosses to the backside linebacker.
Also called: 15 / 14 Wanda (Y) Man (Green Bay)
GB p.226, GB p.227, GB p.228, GB p.229Cross-action inside zone with Push declared: targets slide one man play side and can change after the snap. Receivers block structure. Under center or offset gun (35 / 34).
On film: In gun the back starts opposite, runs flat through the QB's toes then squares up at the B gap; QB rides the mesh and fakes a throw.
GB p.169, GB p.170, GB p.180GB 11 inside zone from bunch, called in a can pair with 15 / 14 Wanda and flipped on safety rotation. Looks like the LA Wifi idea (Wanda with a cross sift) but that match is not confirmed from text.
On film: Bunch set, tight zone toward the bunch, sometimes with Z ghost motion and the QB opening deep.
GB p.167, GB p.168, GB p.273LA Wanda with a cross sift: split-flow tight zone to the closed side off a two-man surface. Can carry a flinch, a bubble, or Fly motion. May be the same play GB calls Wizz (not confirmed).
On film: Tight zone to the TE side, a blocker crossing behind the line to cut off the backside end. Gun version is 34 / 35.
Rams 09 Tight Zone p.7, Rams 09 Tight Zone p.9GB 11 inside zone drawn with structure rules play side and a Sift behind it; reads like Wash plus a Y sift. Unclear from text beyond that.
On film: 2x2 with the Y off the ball or in motion; tight zone with the Y cutting off the backside.
GB p.305GB inside zone weak with a receiver in fly motion and the F sifting the backside. What Wendy adds beyond the fly motion is unclear from text.
On film: Jet motion at the snap, tight zone away from the TE, F crossing to cut off the end.
GB p.304Inside zone strong where Demon = Z ghost motion plus a crack on the first second-level defender in the box, with a Sift on the backside and the QB opening deep.
On film: Z fakes the ghost/orbit behind the QB or cracks down inside on a linebacker; tight zone hits behind it.
GB p.330Tossed inside zone to the weak side from two-back sets with the Z inserting on a box defender. Spot alert available. Fullback job is unclear from text.
On film: Toss action but the back hits downhill inside; short-motion Z digs out a linebacker or safety.
GB p.329GB gun inside zone (box count) with a tagged receiver concept, Pile and Shield, attached. The 50s series number is not explained in the pages read; unclear from text.
On film: Shotgun 11, inside zone with receivers running a quick two-man concept instead of blocking.
GB p.130Gun Dive Zone / Zone Read
LA shotgun-only zone aimed at the backside A gap, run as a straight give (Wanda) or as a QB read of the backside end (Polar, Wanda Read). On film: Shotgun, back beside the QB. Short lead step and straight downhill; on the read versions the QB rides the mesh and can pull it. Numbers: 30 / 31
LA gun dive zone to the weak side: back takes a lead step and tracks the backside A gap. Ski adds a slide with insert, Solid tells the backside receiver he has no insert rule.
On film: Shotgun, back next to the QB hits straight downhill at the center's far hip. Tightest zone track in the system.
Rams 10 Gun Only Dive Zone / Zone Read p.5LA dive zone read to the open side from 2x2. QB reaches and rides, and can pull it. TE away from the run takes his best release to the support player: arcs vs a 6 technique, goes through vs a 9.
On film: Gun, QB rides the mesh with eyes on the unblocked end to the TE side; TE releases past that end without blocking him.
Rams 10 Gun Only Dive Zone / Zone Read p.7LA dive zone read from open formations (no TE): both edges are open and there is nobody to release on the backside, so the QB simply reads the backside end.
On film: Gun trips or 1x3 open, no tight end attached. QB rides the back and keeps if the end crashes.
Rams 10 Gun Only Dive Zone / Zone Read p.9Gap Runs
Down blocks and double teams instead of zone steps. Duo family has no puller; Power, Pop and Punch pull the backside guard; Counter, Stutter and Stanley / Barkley pull the guard to kick out plus a second man who wraps. On film: Play-side linemen block down or double vertically. Look for a backside guard pulling, and whether a second player (F, Y or a receiver) follows him. Back hits tight to the A gap. Numbers: 12 / 13 (gun 32 / 33)
Strong-side gap scheme with no puller: vertical double teams up to the backers, TEs handle the end and Sam, back reads the first play-side linebacker. Receiver has Maybe rules (find the down safety, may insert).
On film: Looks like power without a pulling guard. Double teams drive straight off the ball, back presses downhill at the A/B gap with square shoulders then bounces or bangs off the Mike.
GB p.172, GB p.173, Rams 11 Gap Runs p.5, Rams 11 Gap Runs p.7, Rams 11 Gap Runs p.9GB name for Duo in 11: combos work only to the two box backers (backside LB declared), F blocks the nickel from bunch. LA keeps the word Duo in 11 with a 4 down plus two backer count, so treat it as the same family.
On film: Duo from 2x2 or bunch with three receivers; no puller, slot or F digging out the nickel.
GB p.174, GB p.175, GB p.176, GB p.177, GB p.178, GB p.179LA non-puller gap run where a receiver wraps to the point of attack for the most dangerous man, building a three-man surface from a 2x2 start. Jab step and over-the-top handoff, meant to bounce to the edge.
On film: Back jabs away then takes the ball going wide (D to C gap). A receiver folds in around the TE block as the lead.
Rams 11 Gap Runs p.11Same wrap-and-bounce gap run as Doctor but it can get to the final three-man surface three ways: 2x2 with a wrap, 3x1 with Flow motion away, or 1x3 with Fly motion in.
On film: Jab and over-the-top handoff, receiver wrapping to the edge, usually with jet motion one way or the other.
Rams 11 Gap Runs p.13Doctor family, but the wrap ends in a 2x2 final picture: starts 1x3 and wraps a receiver over, or starts 2x2 with Flow motion and a wrap.
On film: Jab, over-the-top handoff and bounce; wrapper comes from the far side so the formation finishes balanced.
Rams 11 Gap Runs p.16Two-back, full-flow gap scheme. F kicks out the end man, backside guard pulls around the double team for the first color, TE tracks the C gap, Will declared. Back attacks the A gap downhill.
On film: Down blocks play side, fullback kick-out on the end, backside guard pulling through the hole. Back drop-steps then hits tight inside.
GB p.230, GB p.231, GB p.349One-back gap scheme: backside guard pulls around the double team to the first defender in the box, TE declared, end man is blocked man-on. Gun is 32 / 33 with reach-and-ride or same-side draw footwork.
On film: Power look with no fullback: guard pulls and turns up inside, nobody kicks out. Back on a delayed, draw-like downhill path.
GB p.232, GB p.233, GB p.234, GB p.235LA one-back strong gap run with gap-wrap blocking: line blocks back, backside guard pulls and attacks the end man, Y releases to the play-side backer. Guard kicks out here, so it is not paired with GB Pop.
On film: Guard pulls and kicks the end, back presses the A gap and reads that block. Can add flow motion with a receiver wrap. Gun is 32 / 33.
Rams 11 Gap Runs p.20Strong-side counter: backside guard trap-pulls the end man, F wraps for the first backer in the box, TE tracks the C gap, Will declared. LA Load Chuck Wrap is similar but wraps a receiver, so kept separate.
On film: Back takes a counter step away, then follows two pullers back: guard kicks out, F turns up inside him. Over-the-top handoff.
GB p.270, GB p.271LA strong-side counter from 12/13: F and Y combo the end to the second backer (Load), backside guard pulls for the end man, a receiver wraps to the hole. Snapped off fly motion, possible ghost fake.
On film: Rocker step by the back, guard pulling to kick out, receiver folding in behind him as the second puller. Two TEs doubling at the point.
Rams 11 Gap Runs p.18Weak-side counter in 11: backside guard trap-pulls and kicks out the end man, the Y wraps for the first backer in the box, play-side tackle works to #2. Same blocking as LA Barkley. Gun is 33 / 32.
On film: Back counter-steps toward the TE then comes back weak. Guard and TE both pull across: guard kicks, TE leads up inside.
Also called: 13 / 12 Barkley (Rams)
GB p.308, GB p.309, Rams 11 Gap Runs p.22Weak-side counter from two-back or two-TE sets: backside guard trap-pulls the end, F wraps for the first backer. Backside tackle and TE handle the Sam with Ink, Thru or Pinch calls.
On film: Same as Stanley but the second puller is the fullback/F from the backfield or wing instead of the in-line Y.
GB p.306, GB p.307, GB p.383Perimeter (Toss Crack, Pin and Pull)
Runs that get outside with crack blocks and pullers rather than zone. GB calls the toss-crack group Transportation (Taxi, Truck, Cab, Uber, Trailer); LA has Delta Ferrari and the pin-and-pull Race. On film: Toss or flat gun handoff. Receivers and TEs block down inside, a tackle or guard pulls outside them, back runs for the numbers. Numbers: 18 / 19 (gun 38 / 39)
Toss crack off a two-man surface: inside blocker seals the end man, outside blocker walls the first defender inside him, play-side tackle pulls for the widest. Zero declared. Run either way, gun is 39 / 38.
On film: Reverse-out toss, receivers and TE blocking down, tackle pulling flat around them for the corner or force. Back runs for width then gets downhill.
GB p.272, GB p.273, GB p.384Toss crack off a three-man surface: middle man seals the end, outside man walls inside, inside man goes out to block force, and the pulling tackle leads the back through the alley.
On film: Bunch or tight trips. Two crack blocks, one receiver kicking out to the corner, tackle pulling as a lead blocker in front of the toss.
GB p.274, GB p.275Toss crack off a three-man surface where the outside man stays on the corner: inside man seals the end, middle man walls inside, tackle pulls for the alley.
On film: Trips with the widest receiver stalking the corner while the two inside him crack down; tackle pulls through the alley ahead of the toss.
GB p.332, GB p.333GB two-back Transportation run. Diagrams show the two-man rule for a pulling play-side guard and a Wipe call; the full assignment is unclear from text.
On film: I formation toss to the perimeter with a play-side guard pulling for the Mike.
GB p.331, GB p.384GB 11 Transportation run with fly motion, blockers assigned to the widest and second-widest defenders, canned to 15 / 14 Wash vs shell. Unclear from text whether the back or the motion man carries it.
On film: Stamp/Swamp bunch look with jet motion; perimeter play with two receivers blocking the two widest defenders.
GB p.310LA toss crack with a fake jet sweep first: QB reverse pivots, fakes the sweep, tosses to the back, one man cracks. Same family as GB Taxi / Truck / Cab but not matched to one of them.
On film: Jet motion and a sweep fake one way, then a toss to the back going wide with a single crack block on the edge.
Rams 12 Perimeter Runs p.5Gun pin-and-pull to the perimeter. Tag = tackle pins the 3 technique and the guard pulls; Take = TE pins the end and the tackle pulls. Paired with LA Race: same numbers, same guard/tackle pull-by-alignment rule.
On film: Shotgun, back runs flat across the QB for the numbers. One or two play-side linemen pull outside while the man next to them blocks down.
Also called: 38 / 39 Race (Rams)
GB p.163, GB p.385, Rams 12 Perimeter Runs p.6Sweeps and Specials
Jet/fly sweeps named in airline pairs (Spirit / Alaska, Allegiant / American) and rockets (Missile / Rocket), plus reverses and run calls with a quick throw attached. On film: Receiver in fast motion gets the ball in front of the QB while the back fakes a zone run, usually the opposite way. Numbers: named, no number
Fly sweep to the motion man with zone run action by the back going the other way. Two play-side blockers take the two widest. LA runs it to a closed side off 17 / 16 Wanda action and uses it as Flash's give.
On film: Receiver in full-speed jet motion takes the ball in front of the QB at about 4 yards; back and line show zone the opposite way. QB still boots.
GB p.131, GB p.180, GB p.310, Rams 13 Sweeps & Specials p.8LA jet sweep to the open side with mid zone action (16 / 17) away. Two play-side blockers from 2x2; "One" from 3x1 means a single blocker on the most dangerous man. Exchange is an added tag.
On film: Jet motion snapped at the B gap, QB opens to the sweeper, back fakes mid zone the other way. Sweep goes away from the TE.
Rams 13 Sweeps & Specials p.5, Rams 13 Sweeps & Specials p.7LA full-flow jet sweep to the strong side: QB opens away from the sweep, hands it at 4 yards, then carries out a tight zone (14 / 15) fake with the back.
On film: Jet sweep toward the TE side with everyone flowing with it, back faking inside zone.
Rams 13 Sweeps & Specials p.9GB gun wide zone structure with man blocking backside and a quick two-man throw attached (Sun, drawn as slant plus under). The 50s number is not explained in the pages read; unclear from text.
On film: Shotgun 11, wide zone action with two receivers running slant and under instead of blocking.
GB p.162Draws and QB Calls
GB install 6 draws from gun, paired with Scat passes as the can, plus the Q8 call that is paired with inside zone. On film: Line pass-sets, delayed handoff from shotgun. Numbers: Draw Rt / Lt, Q8
GB gun draw in 11, called with a Scat pass as the can vs man. Line uses pass-pro style calls, slot receiver owns the nickel only if he looks in the backfield. Draw Will is the version that cans vs middle-of-field closed.
On film: Shotgun, line pass-sets and invites the rush upfield, delayed handoff. Receivers release like a pass.
GB p.334, GB p.335GB quarterback call paired with an inside zone can: stay with Q8 vs man, can to 34 Wanda or 14 Weasel vs zone. What Q8 itself is (QB run or keep) is unclear from text.
On film: Gun or weak slot set. If the QB does not check, it is the Q8 call; vs zone you will see the inside zone instead.
GB p.166, GB p.171Goal Line / Short Yardage
GB heavy package (Tank, Tankcedes) versions of the base runs: wide zone, Zorro, fullback lead and Power Load. The LA sections read do not have a separate goal-line run list. On film: Extra linemen or tight ends, I-backs, tight splits. Numbers: 18 / 19, 12 / 13
GB heavy-personnel (Tank) wide zone to the strong side, handoff or toss, with Big A and Triple combinations. 19 / 18 Away is the same idea to the other side.
On film: Jumbo set, I-backs, whole line reaching to the TE side on the goal line.
Also called: 19 / 18 Away (Green Bay)
GB p.343, GB p.344GB Tank goal-line perimeter run. Name says the guard leads; diagrams only show Big A and D combinations, so the pull is unclear from text.
On film: Jumbo I formation, run to the edge with a lineman pulling in front.
GB p.345Goal-line Zorro: fullback and TE work through the end man to the support player while the line zones wide.
On film: Jumbo I, fullback and TE doubling the edge defender then one coming off to the safety.
GB p.346GB Tank downhill run with a fullback lead and Slam / Single combinations, QB opening deep. Lead Switch changes who the lead and a lineman take; details unclear from text.
On film: Jumbo I, fullback straight into the A/B gap ahead of the back.
Also called: 12 / 13 Lead Switch (Green Bay)
GB p.347, GB p.348Run tags
Backside cut-off by a TE, F or receiver: he takes the first defender outside the backside tackle and lets nobody cross his face. Lets the back cut all the way back. Also a line word for the backside tackle protecting the B gap.

Also called: Fup (Rams)
GB p.107, GB p.215, Rams 06 Wide Zone p.8, Rams 03 OL Terminology p.10LA tag on Zap from one-back slot: tells the line there are no Fup calls (exceptions noted for corners over). TEs and tackle take end, Sam and corner.

GB p.180Pass game
Formation, then protection, then concept words. Protection is a number plus a word (2 or 3 Jet, Scat, Scram; hundreds on quick game), a run number with P in front for play pass, or FK plus the run plus Keep for a boot. After that comes the front-side concept, often with a position letter saying who runs the tagged route (Z Stick, F Arches). Any second word is the backside tag or the back (Bow, Swab, Trash, H Coin). Both means mirror it. A (can) splits two full calls.
Protections
Six-man: five linemen plus the back. Line slides away from the call (Rams sort big-on-big vs odd fronts). Back double reads the linebackers inside-out to the call side, then gets out. Hots are built in.
On film: Back steps up and scans before leaking out late. Line sets as a unit one way. TE and every receiver are out. The hundreds version shows up on quick game.
GB p.397, GB p.398, GB p.399, GB p.400, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.5, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.6, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.7Five-man. Line takes the four down plus the widest threats and slides away from the call. Back free releases, and the 2 or 3 tells him which way. QB is hot off the extra rusher.
On film: Back is gone at the snap with no look at a rusher. Five linemen only. Ball comes out fast if a sixth man comes.
GB p.401, GB p.402, GB p.403, GB p.404, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.12, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.13, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.14Same five-man rules as Scat with nobody left to protect: GB defines it as the empty version. The digit still sets the slide and the hot side.
On film: Empty backfield (back split out or motioned out), five linemen, quick throw or a hot when a sixth rusher shows.
GB p.401, GB p.403, Rams 05 Pass Pro p.12, Rams 14 3 Step p.11, Rams 14 3 Step p.12Full-turn protection. Every lineman takes the first gap away from the call, the TE stays in on the end, and the back fits the C-D gap off the TE block. Rams carry it as a one-back audible protection.
On film: Whole line turns the same way at the snap. TE blocks, back fills outside him. Seven stay in, so expect only two or three in the route.

GB p.409, GB p.410Seven-man slide with TE and back on the play side. Rules flip on whether the play-side guard is covered: TE takes the end or pairs with the tackle on end and Sam, back fits C-D or Mike to strong safety.
On film: TE and back both stay in to the same side. Line slides or sorts based on a 3 technique to that side.
GB p.411, GB p.412Jet answer to double-A-gap mug looks. Call-side guard and tackle block man on, center and the backside slide the A/B/C gaps, and the back takes the call-side A gap with no scan. QB makes the call.

How film turns into these words.
The chart's Str column is the passing strength on 3x1. A call goes to the tight end. A tight end alone left with three receivers right is charted 3x1 Rt and called Fast Lt. PlayForge keeps both.
A formation word puts every job in a spot. When film shows something else, a tag says why: Off (the Y backs off the ball and the Z steps on), Clamp (Y off, Z down to 5 yards on the ball), Click (Z on the ball inside, Y outside and off), Close and Closer (the Z comes in), Open and Out (the Y flexes), Tight and Tighter (the X comes in), Slot, Zoom, Hip, Hop. On import PlayForge builds every formation with every tag and keeps the call whose picture is the one on film. If nothing builds it, the formation is named from the picture and its note says so.
Trips, Trio and Trax are one picture on film. So are Dice and Dixie, Stack and South, Bunch and Box. PlayForge names the first and lists the rest as same picture, different jobs. When I know who the F is that week, I can pick the exact word.
Tight end standing up 2 to 5 yards off the tackle is Open. In 2x2 that is Dyno, in 3x1 it is Trips Open, in 1x3 it is Fast Open.
Find the back among the five receivers, name the other four, add his letter.
When a picture fits no book definition the nearest word is used and the formation is flagged closest word, check it.
Alignments are read off the Rams 2022 drawings (clean vector diagrams), named with the system word. Careful: a few words mean different pictures in the two books. Rams Open is the system's Out, Rams Tout is the system's Open, Rams Clout is the system's Click, Rams Trio is the system's Trout, Rams Trick is the system's Trio, Rams Box is the system's Bin, Rams Fast is the system's Foot. Two Rams pictures are left out because their word is already taken: Rams Trout (same picture on film as Trips Open) and Rams Buddy (same picture as Buddy). Rams-only words are kept as they are: Troff, Trey, Treat, Bundle, Bowl, the Jinx family (F alone away from a three-receiver side), Swift, Scoot, Fleet, King, Edge, Acer. On the Formations page, searching a Rams word (Double, Tout, Speed) finds the system formation.
